First Mural Work Start Today!
Work begins today on prepping our first mural wall! Artist Chaitra Garrick-Linehan will begin prepping the back of the commercial building located at 422 W Davis. The prep is labor intensive: power washing, filling cracks, priming, etc. Once complete, the painting of the mural will begin.
Also, this weekend we begin the student portion of the project. Four DISD elementary schools are participating. They are Rosemont, Peabody, Winnetka, and Kahn. The students participating were chosen by their art teacher for their talent and performance at school. The students will paint 24″ x 24″ wood panels on Saturday, March 13, Sunday, March 14, and Tuesday, March 16, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Kavala/Nova space at Windomere and Davis. (though for photo purposes, let me warn you that only one student has chosen to wait until the Tuesday session to start. The others may come Tuesday to finish projects, but the only guarantee for Tuesday is the one student.) Once dry and ready, Steve Cruz of Mighty Fine Arts Gallery will oversee installation of the panels along 7th Street between Edgefield and Windomere.
You can still donate to the mural project, to help us continue raising funds for the paint, supplies, and labor here:

Fundraising has begun for the Seventh Street Corridor mural project. Go Oak Cliff has collaborated with local artists, Kevin Obregon and Steve Cruz, to coordinate the installation of eleven murals. We’re needing to raise $25,000 to complete the project, so every little bit helps. Read more about the project from the Dallas Morning News blog here, and if you’d like to donate, fill out the following form.
